Tiny Checkers
This is my first time making a roguelike game on gamejam and to be honest it wasn't easy. I designed the game as a Turing-complete system when I was designing it, which means that pieces can be moved, triggering effects to move other pieces, which itself can go on to trigger new effects.
I designed a system to handle these complex, iterative effects, but to be honest it's not very robust. So I was busy fixing bugs throughout the second half of the gamejam
My expectations for the game were very high, and there were a lot of really interesting effects and enemies that I didn't get to work on, such as large chess pieces, pieces that combine multiple pieces, things that can be used as pads underneath pieces to drag other pieces around, powerful bosses, magic triggered by movement. Destroying or building new terrain, terrain that moves, that sort of thing. There should also be various events other than the store to make this game more roguelike
I really like inscryption, Wildfrost, shotgunking, you can see a lot of elements of that like bird eggs, the shape of the store, or just having a shotgunking piece I'm trying to contact the authors of these games to get permission to use these elements, for now consider them as meme!
